Sam Hanks is remembered as a fair but determined racer, recognized, respected and admired as a true sportsman. In 1957, when the Indianapolis 500 counted for the Wordl Championship, Sam won with a radically new race car built by George Salih. With its Offenhauser engine mounted on its side with the cylinders in a transverse lateral plane, and a low silhouette, the car allowed a new record average speed of 135.601mph. Immediately after bringing the car to Victory Lane, Sam announced his retirement. He went on to serve as the Director of Competition at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from 1958 through 1979 and as a consultant to numerous companies before retiring to Pacific Palisades, where he passed away in 1994.

Chris Irwin made his Formula 1 debut at the 1966 British Grand Prix in a works Brabham and finished seventh. Reg Parnell entered a BRM H16 for Irwin in 1967 and at the French GP he shone running as high as fourth when his engine went sour. Irwin stayed under contract to BRM in 1968 but in mid-May he flipped an Alan Mann Ford in practice for the Nurburgring 1000km race. He survived the crash with serious head injuries and would never be in condition to raced again.
Nico Rosberg is the son of 1982 Formula 1 World Champion Keke Rosberg and become the youngest ever F1 driver thanks to the test drive he got with the BMW.Williams team as a price for winning the Formula BMW series. After beingna frontrunner in F3 for a couple of years he won the inaugural GP 2 championship in 2005, which secured him the seat Williams from 2006 on and in 2008 finally managed to score his first podium finish.
